Annulate Lamellae in Sarcoma I Cells
نویسندگان
چکیده
Annulate lamellae have been observed in eggs of marine invertebrates (1, 6, 12, 13, 18), rat spermatids (11, 17), crayfish spermatocytes (15), the amphibian pancreas (17), the adrenal cortex of the fetal rat (14), Sarcoma 37 cells (4), HeLa cells (5), Ehrlich and Yoshida ascites tumor cells (20), m ammary carcinoma cells of the rat (16), and cells of a chicken fibrosarcoma (3). Neither the origin nor the function of annulate lamellae has been established. In the present communication, annulate lamellae are demonstrated in Sarcoma I cells grown in susceptible and resistant strains of mice. A variation in structure of annulate lamellae in a cell from a tumor undergoing homograft rejection is described.

ELECTRON MICROSCOPY OF ORAL CELLS IN VITRO I. Annulate Lamellae Observed in Strain KB Cells
The term "annulate lamellae" was first used by Swift (22) to describe pairs of cytoplasmic membranes arranged in parallel stacks and containing periodically spaced annuli. Generally, annulate lamellae have been observed in the cytoplasm of lower organisms (7-9, 11, 14, 22). However, they also have been found in the cytoplasm of the adrenal cortex of fetal rats (19), the liver and pancreatic aci...
متن کاملFine Structure of Annulate Lamellae
Annulate lamellae represent a poorly understood class of cytomembranes (see references 14-18). The structural resemblance and proximity (in some cases) between the nuclear envelope and annulate lamellae have led to the concept that the annulate lamellae represent a product of the nuclear envelope although the methods propoundedly involved in the morphogenesis of annulate lamellae are indeed var...
متن کاملMolecular Characterization and Functional Analysis of Annulate Lamellae Pore Complexes in Nuclear Transport in Mammalian Cells
Annulate lamellae are cytoplasmic organelles containing stacked sheets of membranes embedded with pore complexes. These cytoplasmic pore complexes at annulate lamellae are morphologically similar to nuclear pore complexes at the nuclear envelope. Although annulate lamellae has been observed in nearly all types of cells, their biological functions are still largely unknown. Here we show that SUM...
متن کاملA comparative electron microscopic study on two strains of ascites tumor cells and their sublines resistant to antitumor agents.
A fine structural analysis of ascites tumor cells in the original sensitive strain and in the subline resistant to antitumor agents was performed with the Yoshida ascites sarcoma; its subline resistant to methylbis03-chloroethyl)amine N-oxide (MBAO); ascites hepatoma AH 13; and its sublines resistant to MBAO, mitomycin C, and 6mercaptopurine (6-MP), respectively. In the sublines resistant to MB...
متن کاملNegative Staining and Adenosine Triphosphatase Activity of Annulate Lamellae of Newt Oocytes
Semi-isolated annulate lamellae were prepared from single newt oocytes (Triturus alpestris) by a modified Callan-Tomlin technique. Such preparations were examined with the electron microscope, and the negative staining appearance of the annulate lamellae is described. The annulate lamellae can be detected either adhering to the nuclear envelope or being detached from it. Sometimes they are obse...
